About the Position Caskan Fishing (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced Chief Engineer for a Wet Fish Longline Vessel operating in Namibian waters. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all engineering and mechanical operations onboard, ensuring the vessel remains safe, operational, and compliant with maritime regulations. This senior maritime role requires extensive experience managing vessel machinery, maintenance programs, and engineering teams while supporting efficient fishing operations. Key Responsibilities * Manage and supervise all engineering operations onboard the vessel. * Ensure safe and efficient operation of propulsion and auxiliary machinery. * Oversee maintenance, repairs, and inspections of mechanical equipment. * Monitor engine room performance and vessel systems. * Maintain compliance with maritime safety regulations and standards. * Manage spare parts inventory and engineering documentation. * Coordinate engineering activities during fishing voyages. * Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and technical issues. * Ensure all machinery operates efficiently and safely. * Lead engineering crew and provide technical guidance. * Prepare engineering reports and maintenance records. * Support vessel readiness for fishing operations and inspections. Minimum Requirements Qualifications * Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer. * EO Class 5 Certificate or equivalent qualification. Experience * Minimum 10 years of experience as a Chief Engineer on a similar fishing vessel. * Extensive experience working on wet fish longline vessels. * Proven knowledge of marine engines, hydraulic systems, refrigeration systems, and vessel maintenance. * Experience managing engineering operations during extended fishing trips. Additional Requirements * Willingness to undertake fishing trips of 8–12 days. * Strong leadership and supervisory skills. * Ability to work in challenging offshore environments. * Excellent problem-solving and technical troubleshooting abilities. * Strong understanding of maritime safety and compliance requirements.
