Lewcor is seeking a qualified and experienced Excavator Operator to join its operations team in Oranjemund, Namibia. The position is suited to an experienced heavy-equipment operator who can safely and precisely operate an excavator in an open-pit mining environment while supporting excavation, loading and material-movement activities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Safely and precisely operate an excavator for bulk excavation, loading and material movement within the operational area.
• Carry out excavation activities according to production requirements, designated dig profiles and instructions from supervisors.
• Load excavated material efficiently into haul trucks and other designated transport equipment.
• Perform accurate digging, trenching, material handling and earthmoving activities as operationally required.
• Maintain accurate dig profiles while supporting production targets and efficient material movement.
• Position and operate the excavator safely around haul trucks, other heavy equipment and personnel.
• Conduct pre-start inspections and operational checks before commencing work.
• Monitor excavator performance and promptly report mechanical defects, abnormal operating conditions or safety concerns.
• Maintain high equipment-care standards and operate machinery responsibly to minimise unnecessary wear, damage and downtime.
• Maintain awareness of ground conditions, surrounding equipment, personnel and changing site conditions.
• Follow mine traffic rules, operating procedures and instructions from supervisors.
• Comply with all applicable workplace health, safety and operational requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures provided in English.
• At least two years of experience in an open-pit mining environment.
• Original Operator Competency Certificate for Excavator operation.
• Namibian ID.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Vienna Dover assessment not older than 12 months.
• Valid Certificate of Conduct not older than 12 months.
• Contactable references.
• Own accommodation.
The successful candidate should demonstrate safe equipment operation, accuracy, reliability and the ability to maintain productivity while working in a demanding open-pit mining environment.
