Shapumba & Associates Incorporated is seeking an experienced Senior Associate to join its legal practice in Windhoek, Namibia. This senior legal position is suited to an admitted legal practitioner with substantial post-admission experience who can independently manage complex legal matters, provide high-level legal advice, represent clients and contribute to the professional development of junior members of the legal team.
The Senior Associate will play an important role in delivering professional legal services, managing client matters and supporting the firm's continued growth. The position requires strong legal research, drafting, litigation, advisory, negotiation and client-management capabilities together with sound professional judgement and a commitment to high ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage complex legal matters and client instructions from initial consultation through resolution
- Provide professional legal advice and strategic guidance to clients
- Conduct detailed legal research and analyse legislation, case law and other relevant legal authorities
- Draft, review and prepare legal opinions, pleadings, agreements, contracts, correspondence and other legal documents
- Represent and support clients in litigation, dispute-resolution and other legal proceedings where applicable
- Prepare legal arguments, case strategies and supporting documentation
- Manage legal files, deadlines, court requirements and client documentation accurately
- Conduct consultations and maintain professional communication with clients
- Negotiate on behalf of clients and support effective resolution of legal disputes
- Review legal documentation and identify legal, contractual and regulatory risks
- Maintain confidentiality and protect privileged client information
- Ensure legal work complies with applicable Namibian legislation, court procedures and professional standards
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and relevant stakeholders
- Provide guidance, supervision and mentorship to junior associates and candidate legal practitioners where required
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and professional development within the legal team
- Support business development and the continued growth of the firm's legal practice
- Maintain high standards of legal ethics, professionalism, accuracy and client service
