Metro Namibia is seeking a Junior Software Developer to join its growing IT team at the Metro Head Office. The successful candidate will help build, maintain and improve internal applications and system integrations that support Metro Namibia's day-to-day retail and business operations. Working under the mentorship of the Senior Software Developer, the Junior Software Developer will investigate software issues, fix bugs, develop smaller features, support integrations between internal and third-party systems and work with SQL databases. This is an opportunity for an early-career developer to gain practical experience working with an existing business software environment. Key Responsibilities: • Maintain and improve Metro Namibia's in-house applications, including the Sundry Order App, Metro Insite and other internal systems. • Investigate application problems, troubleshoot bugs and implement appropriate fixes. • Develop and deliver smaller software enhancements and functionality. • Support integrations between internal systems, APIs, data pipelines and third-party services. • Write and troubleshoot SQL queries against retail and business databases using SQL Server. • Write and execute tests for new and existing software functionality. • Provide first-line support for application-related issues and document completed work clearly. • Submit code through pull requests for review by the Senior Software Developer before deployment. • Work collaboratively with the IT team to improve the reliability and usefulness of internal business applications. Requirements: • Basic to intermediate Python knowledge with exposure to FastAPI or similar web frameworks. • Understanding of SQL fundamentals including SELECT, JOIN, WHERE and GROUP BY. • Familiarity with Git and version-control practices. • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. • Relevant qualification in IT or Computer Science at diploma or degree level, or equivalent practical experience supported by a portfolio. • Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to research technical problems using documentation and other appropriate resources. • Eager to learn, receptive to feedback and comfortable working within a code-review process. Knowledge and Experience: • Experience or exposure to web frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask or Django will be beneficial. • Understanding of basic software-testing concepts. • Interest in automation and scripting. • Experience working with or contributing to an existing codebase will be advantageous.
