Barker & Bone Doggy Daycare & Training is seeking an additional qualified Dog Trainer to join its growing professional dog-care and training team in Windhoek, Namibia. The opportunity is suited to an experienced canine professional who is confident working with dogs of different breeds, sizes and temperaments and who is passionate about improving the wellbeing, behaviour and development of dogs through professional training.
The successful Dog Trainer will work directly with dogs in a practical training environment and will be expected to demonstrate patience, reliability, strong communication skills and professional handling techniques. The role requires someone who can work responsibly with animals and communicate effectively with dog owners while contributing to Barker & Bone's professional training standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide professional training and handling for dogs of different breeds, sizes and temperaments
- Apply appropriate dog-training techniques based on individual behaviour and training needs
- Support the development of positive behaviour, obedience and appropriate socialisation
- Handle dogs safely, confidently and compassionately during training activities
- Observe dog behaviour and adapt training approaches where necessary
- Maintain a safe and controlled environment during dog-training activities
- Communicate professionally with dog owners regarding training and progress
- Promote responsible dog handling and animal wellbeing
- Work collaboratively with other members of the dog-care and training team
- Maintain professional standards when working with dogs and their owners
- Continue developing practical canine-training knowledge and skills
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of professional dog-training experience
- Genuine passion for dogs and their wellbeing
- Confidence working with all dog breeds, sizes and temperaments
- Excellent communication skills with dogs and their owners
- Reliable, hardworking and eager to continue learning
- Ability to work effectively within a professional animal-care environment
- Valid driver's licence is advantageous
