Web / Software Developer & IT Specialist

About the Role The Free Press of Namibia is seeking a versatile and highly skilled Web / Software Developer & IT Specialist to join its technical team. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and optimizing the organization’s digital platforms while supporting broader IT infrastructure, systems administration, and technical operations. This position combines software development, web administration, server management, IT support, and digital infrastructure management. The successful candidate will help ensure high availability, performance, and security across all digital assets. Key Responsibilities * Develop, maintain, and optimize WordPress-based websites and custom web applications. * Manage web hosting environments, DNS configurations, and Linux servers. * Develop and maintain mobile applications. * Provide internal IT support for Windows and macOS environments. * Troubleshoot networking, hardware, and peripheral issues. * Manage user accounts and support helpdesk operations. * Assist users through ticketing systems and technical support processes. * Ensure website, application, and server uptime, security, and performance. * Implement best practices for cybersecurity and infrastructure management. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor’s Degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. * Valid driver’s licence. Experience Requirements * Minimum of 3 years’ experience in software development, IT support, or a related technical role. * Proven experience with WordPress development and responsive web design. * Experience developing mobile applications using frameworks such as Flutter or React Native. * Demonstrated experience troubleshooting Windows and macOS environments. * Experience managing hosting environments and server infrastructure. Technical Skills Required * PHP * HTML5 * CSS3 * JavaScript * MySQL * Git and version control systems * Linux administration and command-line environments * DNS management * SSL certificate administration * Web hosting management Advantageous Skills * Experience deploying and running local AI models such as Ollama or LM Studio. * Experience working with AI agents and agentic frameworks. * REST API development and integration. * React.js or Vue.js development. * RSS/XML feed integrations. * Docker containerization. * Uptime monitoring and performance monitoring tools. * Email and SMTP server administration. * TCP/IP networking knowledge. * Printer and peripheral support.
